One of the client’s gas sources was located in a remote jungle area. Access to the equipment was only possible by helicopter, and the client could not rely on the national net for power generation. It needed a reliable solution.
The company flared gas associated to oil production, while emitting greenhouse gases and, as a result, paying significant penalties. The customer’s associated gas had trace amounts. Only with the use of conventional technologies this gas would not be suitable for power generation.
One of the location’s gas supply was 14 km far from the main power consumption center, which posed another challenge to the use the flared gas to feed the remote jungle site Gran Tierra.

Solution
Our first step was to design a customized treatment system. This system converted the flared gas into two different fuel sources and then conditioned them to meet the requirements for our fleet’s engines and turbines.
In addition to our mobile gas treatment and conditioning system, we designed some equipment that could be transported by helicopter and also engineered a collecting system that matched the variety of gases in the field.
Our engineers also designed and supplied UVVs that cleaned and compressed the gas, and transported it through the pipeline to the main consumption center.
As a whole, this turnkey solution delivered a reliable power supply that utilized 100% of the customer’s flare gas. A SoEnergy’s power solution produces 12MW of electrical power, thus providing the client with reliable and efficient power generation by means of a solution that optimizes the available technical resources.
In addition to power supply, we manage operations and maintenance under our Energy as a Service model.
SoEnergy designed and provided a power generation plant that uses 100% of the client's flared gas to produce electricity for all production facilities, thus taking care of the entire oilfield process.
Results
With our Energy as a Service model, our client could obtain a turnkey solution for customized power generation where 100% of its flared gas was used to supply 12MW of reliable electric power.
